What do you get when you take 3 days, 24,000+ vertical feet of climbing, 100+ degree temperatures, 90%+ humidity, 9 ecosystems, 2 oceans, 1 continent???

The toughest mountain bike race on the planet!

Back to the Earth traveled to Costa Rica to cover this grueling
adventure mountain bike race. The race is a 3-day, 300-mile trek across Costa Rica and the only race to traverse a continent, from the Pacific Ocean to the Caribbean Sea. La Ruta climbs roughly the same cumulative vertical feet as Mt. Everest over volcanoes, rainforests and banana plantations, while daily temperatures fluctuate over 60 degrees.

La Ruta draws competitors from around the world, yet only local riders have ever won. In 2001 a number of top US riders went to Costa Rica to dethrone the locals. Only La Ruta itself maintains the and reign as the champion of the World's Toughest Mountain Bike Race!!
